There's been a lot of shit happen over the past 5 months. A break up A new apartment New furniture Travels to B.C and N.W.T Lost my job Visited friends and family in Ottawa, Kingston and Toronto Turned 30 Came back to Calgary, and here I am, ready to give life another go.
Kathleen Edwards is one of my fave chick singers. "It's complicated, technically I'm certified, a walking declaration, of everything I couldn't get right"
I'm so mad and pissed off right now. so here we go! I found this video tonight by accident but I love Social Distortion and it reminds me of being young and having fun. You know, when life was honest and easy going. I'm still honest and easy going. But life isn't. So fuck it. I was willing to live life sincerely, but I've become hardened to the realities of it all. I had an "I dont give a fuck" attitude in high school, which I grew up to realise wasn't appropriate for a woman, but now that I'm a woman, I realise it's the only attitude to have, otherwise you will be stomped all over like I was when I was 15 and in a Mosh Pit. Life is brutal, not fun, challenging and unrewarding for the most part.
Ok, so I had planned to start and finish "my finest hour about a year ago" Basically it was to feature all of my super good friends, in their "finest hour" Well, obviously I failed miserably since, I think, I only featured one friend, Amanda.
Let me say, I mean "Finest Hour" sarcastically. So I will continue, to embarass my friends, a year later.
Let me present Haley, in HER "My Finest Hour."
Let's clear the record here, I LOVE HALEY! She has been my bff since hmm, I was about 16 years old. Sheesh, Haley, that's a super long time! She is sweet, funny as hell, the best listener, GORGEOUS AS FUCK, creative, and just a ton of wicked. Here she is.
I have added a feature, a song that makes me think of them, and although there are quite a few that I could present at this time, I won't cause it's a little tough for me. So after really thinking about it, I came up with this song...
Free - the Martinis
Ya, s he's a dick, a nd makes t shirts with her face on them! pashaw!
She pokes Moose in the ass. Gross!
I tried to sell her once, on teh community board. FAIL, cause I was askin too much!
I wasn't askin much, sheesh!
She runs like a friggin champ!
She takes a ferry and noone wants to go with her! (cept me, obvioiusly)
She wears her underwear on the outside
Uh and then theres that time!!!!
Cute face? :)
A face only I could love???? naw!
She's kinda like Robin Hood, but hot!
Alright, well here's the real "Hales Hales tough as Nails!"
Drop-Dead_Mutha-Fuckin-Gorgeous, Folks. My BFF, Haley!
OH P.S, did I forget to mention this part?
DISCLAIMER: Once you click on this blog, you have signed your soul away, and therefore, your nasty, awesome, not so flattering pictures away. (hee hee) The people featured on "My finest hour" are my favourite peeps ever, they rock my world, I think they are attractive, funny, awesome friends, have great SENSE OF HUMOURS, and are the best people ever. SO THERE. That means they can't get pissed at me for posting, weird, gross, nasty, fucked, bad, horrible, skanky, disgusting pictures of them. HA!
Oh, Ps again, I'm sorry Haley, I really do love you, that's why I also posted some super cute pics of you. Just so peeps wouldn't think you were a total freak. HA!
STAY TUNED: For the next "Finest Hour" Featuring "Ceremony - the Kate Suppa Story", t his will take longer to create, since a ton of her finest hours are still on as I like to call them "physical pictures".
I went to Banff on Saturday with Nick, my aunt and her friend. The weather was perfect and the sky couldn't be a brighter shade of blue. Here are some pictures, taken with my iphone camera, I have to say, it takes pretty fantastic pictures!
UGH! So I haven't updated in ages! Well not ages but a while. It always goes like this:
Erin: "I'm totally going to blog more often" (saying this to myself of course) Reality: I stop blogging because my life is pretty boring and I don't have much to share.
BUT this time folks, I do.
Since my last update, I got a job. Here's the details in point form.
Positive stuff:
I work for a company that used to be part of an oil and gas company but broke off, created a new company that went into the chemical manufacturing business.
I can walk to work (and do) in 22 minutes
The office has approx 90 people
I make exactly $10,000/year MORE than I did at this time last year
I have killer benefits and investment opportunities
Everyone seems really nice
Laid back office environment
I managed to negotiate 2 days off during my first month of work
I will now have the money to have an amazing summer and hopefully leave the country before 2010, need to get a passport first though
I have something to do with my time....I guess!
The negatives, which aren't really all that negative:
I do the exact same thing I did 6 years ago, which is kind of a step back, but financially it's a step up so that's all that matters to me at this point
I am, once again probably the youngest person in the office, which means no friendship opportunities, (a girl needs friends, people!)
I will be working during the summer (I was wishing to be off for the summer, cause I haven't had a summer off since I was 16
I have to wake up at 6:15, to be at work for 8:00am, and I don't get off til 5:00pm
I was walking home from school one day, when I saw Danny, standing there, I tried to show him, my dirty underwear, he showed me his, but nothing could compare, then he said "you're ugly, what the fuck gave birth to you", you're ugly, and I bet your mom is too, you're ugly, man what's with that doo, you're ugly, because, you're ugly!
This song just popped into my head, it's from way back in my Hike-School days, as I was pouring my coffee with soy chocolate milk.
Ya, I know, sounds douchy, kind of like ordering at Starbucks, but that's all I have right now in the form of dairy or dairy wanna be products and I AIN'T going out lookin like this. Normally I don't care what I look like if I just need to run out quickly and get something from the store. But today, that's just my excuse for being lazy. Cause in reality, my hair looks fantastic and I haven't even brushed it yet.
On another note, I am waiting to potentially get a job offer either tomorrow or Monday, which I guess good cause it's a job, but I have a really friggin wicked interview with a science organization within the University of Calgary. The job sounds great, exciting, challenging, loads of responsibilities and I would have 4-6 people working under me. ooo lala, bitches!
As all of my friends know, I am a huge fan of everything retro! Which is why I am so excited about this grill I found on anthropologie.com. It is the most fantastic thing I have seen in a long time. Although I have a wicked, full size bbq already, I can't help but want this one just cause it's the shit, you hear me, it is the cats freakin meow.
Hmm, I wonder if any of my friends are in need of a tabletop bbq? I could buy it for them and be forever jelous, but hey, at least someone I know could have it, and love it forever and ever, Amen.
Here are the deets: Retromodern Mini Grill Perfectly proportioned for small parties on small patios, this futuristic throwback charms with a fresh green color scheme and just enough room for a few briquettes and a pair of patties. Stainless steel Hand wash 15.75"H, 12" diameter Imported style #973261
Ya, so I haven't blogged in a while. I have nothing to say, no funny clips to share, I'm just one big ball of blah lately. I have no job, no job offers, nothing to look forward to or get me excited about life right now.
You know when your life is going really well, and you're accomplishing goals and setting new ones and really looking forward to the years to come? Ya well I lost all of that, it kinda fell apart when I got laid off in Feb. I have been set back, and it's been a struggle to keep a smile on my face and joy in my voice.
I've never been unemployed, since I started working 10 years ago, NEVER, not even for a week, and quite frankly I don't know what the fuck to do with myself. I know this all sounds really dramatic, but it's how I feel.
My boyfriend keeps talking about moving back to Toronto, and it sounds like a good idea sometimes, cause at least I would have my friends there to keep me company. I'd feel like I was quitting though. (Also, I want to move to Vancouver next, city with the ocean, fuck ya) Ok, I just thought of a funny video I could post, you know, to make up for my fucking complaining. Sorry.
Ya, I know it's offensive and I'm an immature loser for finding it funny, but I can't help it.
Tonight was Beerfest at the Stampede grounds. Sampling various beers from Canada, with a focus on the west of course. I was glad they had my top 3 fave beers from Ontario, Mill Street, Creemore and Steemwhistle! wooo! But I tried a few awesome beers. Of course now I can't remember the names....one was from Scotland, it was an ale with a hint of coriander. YA I know, weird huh, coriander, but it was fantastic. Also tried a coupla beers from Washington state that are my new faves...Fish Tale - winterale, and Fish Tale EXTRA stout. I'm a sucker for a wicked Stout and this one was super good, and the ale, well that's a whole other story, I don't know what it was about it but it had this great taste, almost fruity, and fruity is gross, it was this nice sweet but not sweet taste. Ya I'm totally not a beer taster, I can't describe SHIT, but it was the best beer ever.
Here are a few pics from BEERFEST - Calgary.
Here's me at the beginning of Beerfest, enjoying my first beer, which is the above mentioned Fish Tale Extra Stout!
And here's me at the end of Beerfest, EEEEEEEEEEEEK! K, it's not really me at the end, there's much messier hair and prolly drool on my face and beer mustaches, but whatev's, just dig it, ok?
*I got there at the very beginning, 4:00pm, it wasn't busy, and I was at the totally quiet end in this pic, the rest of it was full of people. Just wanted to clear up, that I don't live in the sticks....honest. There's a million people in this city, I swear!
I live an hour drive from a town called Banff, in the Rocky mountains. It is the most beautiful place I've ever been, the views are breathtaking no matter where you are. Here are some examples....
Nick standing next to the Bow river, in Banff.View of the town from the top of Sulphur Mountain. View of Banff and other mountains from the top of Sulphur Mountain. Me, standing on the street with a mountain behind me. Nick and I standing on top of Sulphur Mountain, look at the freakin' view!
So, I didn't get the job. They hired someone "more experienced". I have like 6 years experience doing this shit. It's not like it's some senior position or anything, hell, I was even willing to take an $8000/year pay cut. We now interupt this blog post for a brief adult temper tantrum.
Shit fuck hell damn shit fuck shit, fuck. Shit for brains Asshole Dickweed Low life You're a mother fucker and I hate you Fuck shit hell damn shit fuck fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you! "I've been so mad lately" - Butt Trumpet
I was reading this chicks blog last week (I swear to god every sentence I say these days starts with those 8 words) I'm pathetic. I need a life. My own life. Anyways, she was talking about being in Canada at the moment and some of her observations about Canada and Canadians. She heard about this soup we eat called scotch broth, so she decided to try some.
Ok, I consider myself to be pretty friggin Canadian, like not redneck Canadian, but I'm a bit of a hoser. I drink beer, I say EH? I have seen the Hip, I spent a huge part of my life living in the east coast as well as Kingston, Ottawa and Toronto. I've been to the Arctic, I swim in ice cold ocean water, and enjoy it, (I have no choice the Atlantic is freezing) I like hockey, I occasionally get drunk and play hockey on an outdoor rink in the wintertime, I teach skating, I enjoy fishing, camping, I look forward to may two four, I have a sense of humour, I'm a good neighbour, and the list goes on.
BUT, I've never heard of this scotch broth stuff. Maybe I'm just ignorant and I've never noticed the stuff at the store before. But to think of Scotch Broth as a quirky Canadian thing? I think not. Well this post sounded way funnier in my head. I am one of those peeps that doesn't have a way with words, I wish I did.
Anyways, teh point of this post was basically to say, it's funny what we assume when we are in different cities, Provinces, States and Countries. You might see something that is different than what you're used to and automatically we think it is somehow representative of wherever you happen to be. I mean some things are, for sure, but not everything. It's funny how we do that. BTW, this can of soup cost me $2.09, where I'm from (Toronto) a can of soup like this should not cost much more than $1.09. Food is expensive in Alberta. Have you ever paid $4.99/lb for red peppers? Ya, I have.
If you look back a few posts, you will see my post about having way too many coffee cups, ya I know I call them coffee cups rather than coffee mugs, so what? I was making coffee this morning and took a picture of it, cause I just wanted to show someone, anyone (other than my boyfriend cause he doesn't get it) how cute my kitty mug is. Also the orange coffee can in the pic is awesome. And ya, I mailed it over 2000km's across the country so that I could scoop my coffee out of it every morning. What can I say, I'm a simple girl, with simple pleasures.
Oh, ps, I bought a can of scotch broth, I had to check this shit out for myself.
I came across THIS blog tonight and was reading a post about googling the word unfortunately then your name. So I did it, and it's pretty funny what comes up. Here's what happens when I googled unfortunately Erin.
- Unfortunately, Erin parades around the bedroom wearing only a bra and an unbuttoned shirt. (I do not)
- UnfortunatelyErin's early bedtime of 6pm did not allow her to attend any of the formal dinners held in her honour. (There were dinners held in my honour? Why wasn't I invited? It's the early bedtime huh?)
- Unfortunately, Erin will, but for all of the wrong reasons. (Can't argue with that)
- UnfortunatelyErin Esurance Just Misssed the Cut. (Apparently)
- UnfortunatelyErin's won't be around long unless they lower their prices. Few people are willing to pay $9 for a sandwich for lunch. (Ya but what was Subway thinking when they decided to charge $18.00 for a lobster sub?)
- Unfortunately, Erin won't be pointing at her boobs in the video game. (Friggin right I will)
- Unfortunately, Erin's bag did not make it from New York to Virginia. (You mean Toronto to Nunavut?)
- Unfortunately, Erin, I know nothing about the two entities you mention. (That's what she said)
I've been waiting all week to hear about a job that I really want. I'm not sure if I actually want it, or if I just want it because I really think I can get it. I was told I should hear back today. No phone call.
I'm kind of bummed because it is the only interview I've had in a month, after sending out tons of resumes and by tons I mean about 45 this month. I'm not an idiot, I have a lot of experience, so what's up? I have been unemployed for over 2 months now, which is just messed up. I haven't been unemployed since I started working over 10 years ago. I haven't reached the "what's wrong with me" stage yet, but god damn, I think it's coming.
Oh ya, my boyfriend got a promotion yesterday. Awesome!
I love tattoos. I love how creative and original people want to be when they get a tattoo. I love the stories, the memories, the art and beauty that goes into every tattoo.
Do you have any tattoos? What are they? Where are they? Why did you get them? Please feel free to send pictures to my email address. Perhaps if I get enough, I can do a blog post about everyones tattoo and story... Here are mine!
This is a vegvisir, a Nordic compass. It means "direction sign" or "see the way". It was used by vikings to prevent them from getting lost when they went out to sea, or to battle. It's magic :) Todays interpretation is more about not losing yourself, or always knowing who you are. It's on my back, just below my neck. I got itat Lucky 13 Tattoos on Bloor St. W in Toronto, in 2007 with my best friend Erinne.
This tattoo says I carry my joy, it's from a Bjork song "Who is it". I just loved the lyrics, "carry my joy on the left, carry my pain on the right...." I went through hundreds of fonts and found this one, I really like it. As you can tell, this tattoo is on the inside of my left wrist, I got it done at Lucky 13 Tattoos on Bloor St. W in Toronto, 2006 on a whim.
A few days later, I went out and got the second tattoo, I walked around with bandages on my wrists, I got some strange looks from the gals I taught skating with in the dressing room. "uh are you ok Erin?" I'm like ok everyone, before I get any questions or comments, I got tattoos on my wrists! NO I'm not suicidal. Also done at Lucky 13 tattoos on Bloor St. W in Toronto in 2006
The one I'm so glad I can hide the easiest. My love for tattoos started when I was in grade 10. So by the time I was 16 I had convinced my mother to let me get one. What did I get? This retarded sun. People, what you think is awesome at the age of 16, you might not think is awesome at the age of 29. But whatev's, it's super easy to hide, and it makes me laugh whenever I see it. I've been trying to think of something to cover it up with for years...but I'm still unsure. Eventually I will figure it out. I think I totally want a half sleeve, but maybe I won't want it anymore in 10 years, decisions decisions. This tattoo is on my upper arm, I got it done in Oromocto, New Brusnwick at Red Lion Tattoos, in er, 1996.

Tagging, anyone who feels like doing this. You know you want to!
After moving over 2000 km's across the country, I found myself in a new apartment, with 2 suitcases and 2 small boxes of my personal belongings. (plus boyfriend & 2 cats, according to some girls they might list boyfriends and cats as their personal belongings, but not I, cause I'm all respectful like that.
Anyways, we had to buy everything for our apartment, a bed, furniture, accessories, stuff, tupperware (gotta have tupperware) pots & pans, dishes, etc. So we find a set of dishes that we like which comes with 4 of everything, including 4 mugs which should totally be enough for 2 people right? (We have a dishwasher too, so being too lazy to wash dishes is not an excuse that will come outta my mouth). So this morning, I go to grab a mug out of the cupboard and realise that I have like 12 mugs now. Why the fuck does that always happen. Maybe I'm the only person this happens to, but I always end up with a crazy collection of mugs, I have a mug from the 2 jobs I have had so far here in Calgary, I brought my I heart Montreal mug just cause I do! We've got a mug from where NP works, uh, a really cute cat mug that I had to have, a tall starbucks mug....there are a couple more.
Why do I feel the need to buy or bring new mugs home. Does this happen to anyone else, or am I a weirdo mug freak?
p.s. Yea, that's my cuteoverload.com calendar in the background, you jelous?
